Opera Mini – Finally something new!

Apple has long thwarted the attempts of iPhone developers when it came to creating applications that competed directly with Apples embedded software.

Marco Arment, developer of Tumblr

“It’s an acceptable trade-off for a smartphone, but is it healthy for anyone if all possibilities vanish for alternative native web browsers, email clients, media players, media storefronts, calendars, and contact managers?”

I for one was never that impressed with Mobile Safari, it is limiting and many times unstable. While Opera Mini has yet to be put through the paces I am pleased none the less to have a second option. If Firefox decides to come to the table with a mobile FireFox them I will be downloading it as well.

Why not?

BUT! Considering Apple has a 64% strong hold in the mobile Browser usage arena, and at the time only had one browser its safe to say that 64% of that traffic was funneled through one browsers. Web developers had one browser to deal with. Now Opera comes to the table. Another browser to possibly contend with.

No matter what, its nice to see some competition.

pulpTunes – The Web Server for iTunes

This handy application turns your iTunes library into a searchable, sortable online music center. I have been using this at work and streaming music from my home PC with great results.

PHP Collab Version 3 Status Update

We are taking a new approach to this PM app, its nothing like the previous version. That being said these things take time.

One of the goals is to create rolls for people like Developers, Designers, Managers, and Admins with the understanding that the Designer wont have as much use for the Gantt Charts as the Admins. The Admins really won’t want to see all the Developers Code work and so on.

There are a lot of great tools available for people to use on the web, and most of these tools cost money or are limited in one way or another by either focusing on one particular roll making the app less user friendly for those rolls not specifically related.

An example would be Basecamp for developers. While Basecamp is a great product its not geared towards developing. On the other hand something like Unfuddle is geared to Developers but really not meant for a client to view.

You then look for or build more tools to patch other web apps to make them a little more integrated.
We are trying to bring everything together under one roof. Everything you need in one easy to use application.
I think we can give a lot of the paid sites a run for their money!

Feel free to post a comment letting us know what you might want to see, its never to late to speak your mind.

Axure for Mac… Finally!

I used to use Axure RP a decent amount over the past years, but one thing that interrupted my work flow was having a Mac in one location and a PC in the other. Not to mention that I really enjoyed using OmniGraffle over Microsoft Visio.

The alpha was announced December 22nd 2009 and will be valid until February 28th 2010 when the beta is released.

Axure RP is the leading tool for rapidly creating wireframes, prototypes and specifications for applications and web sites.

Upcoming Plans

My Addressbook and Spoke Calculator have both been very successful. The increase in downloads has prompted me to revisit my method of delivering updates and support.

I have had plans for a long time now to update both scripts, while the Spoke Calculator doesn’t need much work there are improvements to be made in the code. The Addressbook script on the other hand needs some work. Every one has nothing but good things to say. In fact the only changes I’m making to it are features and improvements along with a snazzy redesign.

I’m going to be building a separate site for the scripts i offer, as WordPress is not a good platform for updating projects and offering support. The new site hosting the scripts will have a method for support tickets, downloads, versions, possible SVN access, and a change log.

I will still blog about the changes on this site but i wont be placing the downloads on here.

Now is the time to let me know what you want to see in the Addressbook Script, if you are interested in contributing or even testing let me know about that as well!
